The proliferation of underfloor services, especially the need for greater flexibility in electric cabling, is stimulating demand by architects and designers for special purpose floor access covers.
A typical problem for specialist access cover manufacturer Howe Green was the design and manufacture of a cable outlet for a large office complex. Here a simple but flexible arrangement of floor covers was required for periodic access to data and power outlets in an atrium area.
Each of the purpose made access covers comprises a stainless steel outlet box with recessed lid into which a section of matching limestone has been inset. When closed the cover, which is barely noticeable, lies flush with the surrounding floor surface. A hinged cable flap provides easy access for handling plugs; alternatively the whole cover can be lifted out with a special key.
Howe Green access covers can be used with any type of hard floor or flexible floorcovering and are purpose-made to fit any module or opening. Covers are maintenance free, easy to lift and will resist dirt, water and corrosion. Showedges are available in aluminium or brass. The latest option are coloured showedges in high impact PVC profiles to match the floor.
