LEARNING ABOUT FLOOR ACCESS

Learning about floor access

Over 30 Howe Green floor access covers have been installed in the new state-of-the-art William Gates building at Cambridge University. This Computer Sciences facility is one of the finest additions to British learning and the teaching of 21st century data technology. An essential but vital part of the building is the matrix of complex computer cabling systems, electrics and services hidden beneath the floors. For the building to function efficiently, inconspicuous but easy access is required to these services in corridors, recreation rooms and other areas. In the lecture-halls, for example, where power is required for special displays or demonstrations, the covers include integral hinged cable flaps for plugs. When closed, the cover is completely flush and blends in with the surrounding maple wood floor.
