Howe Green's floor access covers in Kingswinford School have passed their practical examination with flying colours. The covers have been installed around a quadrangle at the heart of the school. Because these are the main access corridors between classrooms, it was essential to guarantee permanent safety underfoot and to reduce future disruption and maintenance. Visedge covers were selected not only because they look unobtrusive but also because they are strong enough to withstand the continual pounding of pupil feet. The covers replace galvanised steel continuous duct covers and a quarry tile floor, a combination which proved unsatisfactory and was replaced with safety vinyl. At Kingswinford School, 24 units were specially manufactured including L-shapes to cut around wall pillars. Single or continuous covers can be made to fit any module or opening in any type of hard floor or flexible floorcovering. Fabricated in aluminium, with stainless steel reinforcement, the covers are easy to lift and will resist dirt, water and corrosion.
